Same, Same, But Different

An assessment piece for a fashion design course requiring the demonstration of sustainable design techniques through experimental design practice.
The resulting garment from my exploration into different remanufacturing techniques to address pre-consumer textile waste.

Using an outdated and unsold RMIT t-shirt and the discarded parts of others, I created a jersey yarn to reknit sleeves and a waistband, changing the style and silhouette in the process. The varying widths of the jersey yarn created an interesting texture – resulting in a new garment with greater visual interest. This is a statement piece, to drive conversation and knowledge of ways in which we can all address the problems of both pre- and post-consumer textile waste globally.
